  • Most Norwegians support abolition of fur industry: survey

    Source: Xinhua    2018-02-27 00:59:28

OSLO, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- The majority of Norwegian population think that the government should ban the fur industry, Norwegian news agency NTB reported Monday.

This is shown in a survey by Sentio Research Group, which was conducted after Norway's ruling parties had agreed to shut all fur farms by 2025 and published the decision in a Government Declaration in January.

While 52 percent of the interviewees supported the ban, 38 percent were against it. The rest answered with "do not know".

Although this result is roughly the same as in a similar survey conducted in November 2016, the numbers showed that while citizens of Oslo and other towns had become stronger opponents of fur farming, the resistance of the people living in villages had been reduced.

The Norwegian government's pledge to phase out the fur industry has dismayed producers, but has been welcomed by animal rights charities.
