Uganda FA investigates match fixing in top leagues

KAMPALA, May 11 (Xinhua) -- Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) set up a commission on Friday to investigate matching fixing in the country's top leagues.

FUFA President Moses Magogo told reporters that the commission headed by Dan Kidega, former Speaker of the East African parliament, started work immediately.

"The Commission's scope shall be specifically limited to the Uganda Premier League, FUFA Big League, Uganda Cup, The FUFA Drum, FUFA Juniors League, FUFA Women Elite league and the FUFA Women's Cup," Magogo said.

He urged the public and football stakeholders to cooperate with the Commission as its efforts are geared towards improving the game

The development comes after several complaints of match fixing especially in the premier league.

Ali Waiswa, vice chairman of the Referees Standing Committee, early this week disclosed that referees are corrupt and some are betting matches.

Mujib Kasule, coach of premier league side Proline FC, also said there is a lot of corruption in the game especially among the officials.

"This is too much for our football. It is good a commission has been put in place but it is late because the League is about to end," he added.

The FA said anybody who forwards credible information will be given a reward of 285 U.S. dollars.
