MANILA, July 3 (Xinhua) -- A 5.6-magnitude earthquake hit Sarangani province in the southern Philippines on Tuesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

Phivolcs said the quake, which struck at 5:59 p.m. local time, struck at a depth of 95 km, about 4 km southeast of Glan town in Sarangani province.

Phivolcs said the tremor, which was tectonic in origin, was also felt in the cities of Mati, Davao, and General Santos, all on Mindanao island.

The institute said it does not expect damage from the tremor. However, it said aftershocks could be felt in the province.

The Sarangani quake is the second tremor to rock the Philippines on Tuesday. A 5.5-magnitude earthquake also struck Batangas province in the Philippine main Luzon Island at 12:25 p.m. local time on Tuesday.
