YANGON, July 30 (Xinhua) -- A total of five people were killed in a landslide in Kawthoung, Myanmar's Kayin state, on Monday morning, triggered by torrential rain, said the Information Ministry.

The tragedy occurred at 7:45 a.m. local time at the base of a mountain near Pu LoneTon village where several houses were buried with the five pressed to death.

Of the five victims, three are women, the sources added.

Flood and landslide, caused by strong wind and heavy rainfall in recent days have caused damage and loss to many areas in the country including Nay Pyi Taw, Shan state, Kayin state, Bago region and Rakhine state, according to the report of Myanmar News Agency.

Landslide had also hit Kachin state's Hpakant mining region last Tuesday, resulting in 27 people missing.
