HOUSTON, May 6 (Xinhua) -- China-U.S. collaboration in science and technology has great potential and is beneficial to both countries, Chinese Consul General in Houston Li Qiangmin said here Monday.

The world's largest annual oil and gas trade show, the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC), kicked off here on Monday. Visiting Chinese exhibitors, Li said there are more Chinese companies participating in OTC 2019, "showing great potential in China-U.S. science and technology cooperation and collaboration."

"The United States has been playing a leading role in science and technology for so long, but China is catching up as a rising star. Therefore, the two countries are complementary in science and technology cooperation," he told Xinhua.

Chinese participants in the four-day event include state-run leading companies such as China National Offshore Oil Corp. and China National Petroleum Corp., as well as private enterprises from across the country.

Li noted that using cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence and digitization, the private companies can be competitive in the global market.

At the event's opening general session on Monday, several senior industrial executives and scholars gave keynote speeches and shared their thoughts during an executive panel discussion.

The technical program of the four-day event includes more than 80 technical sessions, industry breakfasts and themed luncheons covering a wide range of topics.

This year's new program, Around the World Series, features global industry leaders from Australia, Canada, France, Ghana, Guyana, Israel, Mexico, Norway, and the United Kingdom to discuss new licensing and business opportunities, as well as recently introduced technologies.

Founded in 1969, OTC provides a platform for energy professionals to exchange thoughts to advance scientific and technical knowledge on offshore resources and environmental matters.
