HONG KONG, March 30 (Xinhua) -- Nearly 1,000 participants, mostly teenagers, broke the "Most People Painting Figurines" Guinness World Record on Friday in Hong Kong.

The participants, from dozens of local middle and primary schools as well as Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), made the attempt at the Sha Tin Racecourse.

Under the guidance of a local artist and children's book illustrator, the participants painted nearly 1,000 horse figurines, 951 of which were finally verified as successful by the adjudicator of Guinness World Records.

After verification, Guinness World Records adjudicator Louis Jelinek confirmed that a new Guinness World Records title had been earned for "Most People Painting Figurines," and presented the organizer, the Hong Kong Jokey Club (HKJC), with a certificate.

Jelinek told Xinhua that he was amazed by the artistic talent the teenagers showed during the challenge and their success "shows that when a community comes together, when people get together doing things together, really everything is possible."

The world record challenge is described by the HKJC as a highlight of its annual community event for Easter. The event, called Riding High Together Festival, has been held for four years, and three Guinness World Records have been broken in the previous years.

"It is the fourth consecutive year that we set a new world record at the Riding High Together Festival. I hope the unforgettable experience you gained today could inspire and encourage you to continue unleashing your potentials and improve," the HKJC Deputy Chairman Anthony Chow said to the participants at the ceremony for presenting the certificate.
