LISBON, July 5 (Xinhua) -- The Climate Change Leadership Porto Summit 2018 will seek solutions that can be enacted now, one of the organizers said on Thursday.

"Lots of conferences talk about the problems, but our approach is that there's no more time for talking, we have to find and implement solutions now," organizer Adrian Bridge told Lusa Portuguese News Agency.

The summit takes place in Porto on Friday and features four high-profile keynote speakers.

Mohan Munasinghe, a Sri Lankan physicist, academic and economist, and winner of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize, will speak about the work of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), an organization he used to represent as vice-chairman.

Irina Bokova, a Bulgarian politician and diplomat and former Director-General of UNESCO, is scheduled to talk about climate change and world heritage, within the context of Porto's wine-growing region.

Juan Verde is a Spanish-born consultant and president of the Advanced Leadership Foundation (ALF), one of the co-organizers of the event. He will speak about renewable energy and sustainability in agribusiness and biomedicine, the so-called "green economy".

Verde has been an adviser to the U.S. government and worked closely with former president Barack Obama, the final conference speaker. Obama will talk about the impact of climate change and the challenges it presents.

"Obama was selected for two reasons," said Bridge, who is ALF's Porto representative. "He has a track record of being very connected to areas of sustainability and climate change, and as a person he's very interested in human responsibility."

The conference will be attended by 3,000 guests, for the most part scientists, businessmen and politicians.
