BERLIN, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Michal Haratyk won the men's shot put with a throw of 21.72 meters at the inaugural multi-sport European Championships in Berlin Olympic stadium on Tuesday.

Fellow countryman Konrado Bukowiecki took the silver medal after throwing 21.66 meters. Germany's David Storl grabbed the bronze medal with a 21.41 meters throw.

"Of course it would have been great to win at the European Championship on home soil. I am nevertheless very happy about bronze," Storl said.

The first edition of the European Championships is a multi-sport event and feature seven sports including aquatics events, rowing, gymnastics, cycling, triathlon and golf in Glasgow and athletics in Berlin.

The competition will be held from 2-12 August and will have more than 4,500 athletes competing for 187 gold medals.
