PARIS, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- French people have given President Emmanuel Macron his lowest approval rating -- 34 percent -- this month compared to July figures, BVA pollster said on Friday.

The poll for RTL radio and La Tribune showed a fall of five percentage points in August's rating from a month earlier, with two out of three French people saying they were not satisfied with the Elysee Palace occupant.

"Macron suffers from the political discredit linked to the resignation of (ecology minister) Nicolas Hulot but also from the opposition's mobilization after the Benalla affair," the pollster said.

Alexandre Benalle, once Macron's security officer and deputy chief of staff, was under investigation for the violent beating of a protester on May 1 of this year.

"The analysis of the reasons given by the French for their opinion shows...a certain rupture in the presidential image due to political practices that lack exemplarity and are too sensitive to economic interests," it added.

Among those surveyed by BVA, only 28 percent thought the policies of Macron's government were fair, while 27 percent said they were effective.

Having won the 2017 election with 66.1 percent of the vote on a reformist project to modernize eurozone's second leading power, Macron, France's rising political star vowed to serve the country well and bring about change after he had shaken the country's political landscape.

Fifteen months into his role as president, he has changed the labor code, put forward a new education system, and reformed the rail sector, a move that has brought workers and students out in protests.

The poll was carried out between Aug. 29 and 30 and involved 1,040 participants aged 18 and over, according to BVA.
