MADRID, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Bernd Schuster spoke to the Spanish sports paper Diario Marca on Monday in an interview in which he gave some of his experiences coaching in the Chinese Super League.

The 58-year-old former Real Madrid boss is currently coaching Dalian Yafang explained that when he arrived at the club they had lost their last three games and conceded 13 goals without scoring themselves; "so the first thing was to raise the moral of the players," he said.

Schuster admitted the job had not been easy as Dalian was "a newly promoted side, they had changed owners - the Wanda Group had bought it and they were starting from scratch with the aim of bringing in a European coach."

"However, the structure of the club was still that of a second division side; we were able to change that bit by bit, although it needed patience," he continued.

The German also discussed the differences between Chinese and European players, explaining that the Chinese players "don't earn much in basic wages, but they earn a lot in incentives. They work hard because they earn money if they win matches."

"They never complain and we have made them work in morning and afternoon sessions and they want you there so they can win titles," continued Schuster, who also explained the problems of coaching in a country where he doesn't speak the language.

"A lot depends on body language, because the translator can't translate all of your shouting. But laughter, applause, hugs and so on, form part of the motivation. You have to make it clear that nothing happens if you make a mistake," he said.

Schuster admitted that sometimes his players still "lose concentration too easily and can take decisions which you are not expecting, but when there is more tension, they are able to do anything."
