    YANGON, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- A China-Myanmar international training workshop on diagnosis, treatment and prevention of the major diseases in countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) was opened in Yangon Friday.

    Chinese representatives from Hainan Medical University, professors from Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of Myanmar Medical Universities and representatives of Central Women's Hospital as well as trainees participated in the event.

    The training workshop was attached with the inauguration of China-Myanmar Regional Center for Major Disease Control and Prevention.

    Noting that Myanmar has high prevalence of haemoglobin pattern, Prof. San San Myint, director of obstetrics and gynecology department, Central Women's Hospital, stressed at the opening ceremony the importance to prevent the spread of the disease by launching prevention program in the country.

    Myanmar has been collaborating with the Hainan Medical University since 2012 and the university has also been supporting Myanmar in the field of reproductive medicine (ART).

    "All experts will bring the latest research results and clinical application of major tropical diseases and infertility for the program and we can learn the advancement of medical technology and clinical application of major tropical diseases, especially thalassemia and reproductive medicine through this program", said Huang Yuanhua, vice-president of Hainan medical university.

    The training workshop, involving trainees from the country's regions and states, will last until Nov. 16.
