BEIRUT, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- Director of the UN Relief and Work Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) in Lebanon, Claudio Cordone, visited Mieh Mieh camp on Wednesday to check the refugees' urgent needs after clashes in the area.

"We came to check what people need, mainly on the level of infrastructure, while focusing mostly on humanitarian needs," he was quoted as saying by Elnashra, an independent online newspaper.

Cordone also noted that schools and the medical clinics in the camp opened again on Monday.

On his visit, Cordone discussed the situation of Palestinian refugees in the camp and the efforts that the UNRWA is doing to secure people's basic needs in the camp.

Clashes between members of Fatah and Ansar Allah started on Oct. 15, killing at least five and injuring 26 people in the camp.

According to an agreement reached few days ago, Ansar Allah leader, Jamal Suleiman, and 20 of his family members and other supporters withdrew from Mieh Mieh in return of Fatah relaxing its pressure on Ansar Allah's position inside the camp.

Suleiman and the others left Lebanon for Syria.

The camp's Fatah leader, Ghaleb Dinan, said in a speech Sunday that his group's only goal was to ensure Mieh Mieh's security until the time comes "for us to return to our home, Palestine."

Mieh Mieh camp is a Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon, located in the outskirts of Mieh Mieh village, four km east of Sidon city.

The camp has witnessed tensions among its refugees in the past years.

Some 450,000 refugees are registered with the UNRWA in Lebanon, with many living in the country's 12 refugee camps.

Palestine refugees represent an estimated 10 percent of the population of Lebanon.
