  • Pacific journalists urged to report more on climate change, solutions

    SUVA, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- As journalists in Pacific island countries, they should report more on not only the facts about climate change, but also solutions for it, said Communications Advisor for the Pacific Council of Churches Netani Rika on Tuesday.

    According to Fiji Broadcasting Corporation (FBC) , speaking to Pacific journalists at the Climate Capacity Building Workshop in Nadi, Fiji's third largest city on Tuesday, Rika said that this was the duty of journalists.

    He told the participants that as journalists, they should be the people who bring about change especially when it comes to climate change.

    Rika said that while climate change is a complex issue, the media has the power to get the parliament to take real action against it, instead of just talking.

    He also urged the journalists to not only report on climate change issues but also on solutions to keep people encouraged.

    Rika said that climate change is no longer just about the change in climate but change in every aspect of people's lives as Pacific Islanders.
