BEIRUT, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- Around 80 students from Le Lycee National School in Lebanon's Beirut celebrated on Tuesday the Chinese New Year at the Chinese embassy in Lebanon.

The Chinese embassy played short videos for the students to tell them more about the Chinese New Year in addition to teaching them to say "Happy New Year" in the Chinese language.

Activities also included the painting and cutting of the Chinese word "Fu" which means happiness while students also performed the Lebanese traditional dance, the Dabkeh.

Le Lycee National's Director General Fadia Zebiane Abou Zeki expressed her happiness to celebrate the Chinese New Year.

"Our mother tongue, culture and traditions are different, yet we're united by our love to humanity and fellowship," she said.

"The Chinese industry is spread worldwide," she added. "We hope to sustain the special bond that unites us."

Abou Zeki told Xinhua that she is proud to introduce the Chinese traditions and civilization to the students.

"We also hope to be able to teach the Chinese language in our school in the near future," she added.

Meanwhile, Chinese Ambassador to Lebanon Wang Kejian said that the embassy is used to inviting teachers and students every year to celebrate the Chinese New Year.

"This gives the chance to Lebanese students to learn more about China's tradition and culture," he said.

This year, he added, students performed the Lebanese traditional dance and sang Lebanese songs which helps enhance the relationship between the Chinese and Lebanese people.
