HANOI, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- Vietnamese President Nguyen Phu Trong and U.S. President Donald Trump witnessed here on Wednesday the signing of several business deals, including two on the sales of Boeing jets to VietJet Air and Bamboo Airways.

Under a deal, budget carrier VietJet Air will buy 100 Boeing 737 Max jets totaling 12.7 billion U.S. dollars at list prices, the local airline said on Wednesday, noting that it also inked with U.S. firm General Electric a contract on aircraft engine maintenance worth 5.3 billion U.S. dollars at list prices.

Under another aircraft deal, newly-established carrier Bamboo Airways will purchase 10 Boeing 787 Dreamliner planes totaling 3 billion U.S. dollars.

According to Vietnam's Transport Ministry, the local aviation market will annually grow 16 percent from now to 2020, and 8 percent in the 2020-2030 period. Vietnamese carriers are expected to serve 64 million passengers by 2020 and 131 million passengers by 2030.

Vietnam's aviation industry served 48.9 million passengers in 2018, up 11.2 percent year-on-year, and transported 405,000 tons of cargoes, up 22.1 percent, said the country's General Statistics Office.
