LONDON, May 17 (Xinhua) -- The exhibition featuring China's Terracotta Warriors held at Liverpool's World Museum has won two major awards, one for being the Tourism Experience of the Year.

The awards presented on Thursday night came just 24 hours after the same exhibition won a highly commended award in the national Museums and Heritage Awards.

In a glittering ceremony in Liverpool's famous Anglican Cathedral, National Museums Liverpool (NML) collected two of the 19 big prizes at the Liverpool City Region Tourism Awards 2019.

NML won Large Event of the Year for its China's First Emperor and the Terracotta Warriors exhibition, and the Large Event and Tourism Experience of the Year category for the same exhibition.

The event is the most important for tourism in the region, with museums, galleries, hotels and attractions all bidding for honors.

In March it was announced that China's Terracotta Warriors helped Liverpool's World Museum to become the most visited English museum outside London in 2018.

Figures compiled by the Association of Leading Visitor Attractions (ALVA) showed the overwhelming success of China's First Emperor and the Terracotta Warriors exhibition.

The 610,000 visitors to the Terracotta event rocketed World Museum up 30 places in the annual league table of British visitor attractions.

In what was a cultural coup for the northern provincial seaport city, three of England's top four museums outside of London are in Liverpool.

According to NML, 2018 was World Museum's busiest year with 1,416,632 visitors, a 111 percent increase on 2017. It is estimated the China's First Emperor and the Terracotta Warriors exhibition had boosted the local economy by more than 110 million U.S. dollars.
