HONG KONG, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Integration of 5G wireless technology into different industries could create a lot of social values, while the regulation of 5G is needed to be considered, according to experts who attended a summit themed "Embracing 5G for the Future" on Tuesday.

The summit was organized by the Hong Kong Chinese Importers' and Exporters' Association and China Mobile Hong Kong.

Speaking at the summit, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Leung Chun-ying spoke of the influences of 5G technology and responsibilities of governments in regulating 5G from a social perspective.

Leung said that the high speed and high capacity features of 5G breaking through geographical barriers will inevitably trigger governments' regulatory policies.

Distant medical consultation, for instance, could be done by 5G networks, allowing foreign doctors not registered in Hong Kong to examine patients and prescribe medicines here, he said, adding that related regulations has to be considered.

When 5G technology is becoming a key technology in people's life, governments should think about the regulatory issues, especially when it may affect national security, he said.

Edward Deng, president of Huawei Wireless Solution, said at the summit that 5G is not an independent industry, but it could integrate into different industries and generate a lot of social values.

Therefore, Huawei has been working with different industries on 5G to create more innovative applications such as collaborating with industries including media, education, tourism and finance.

Lu Tingjie, a professor from Beijing University of Posts & Telecommunication, said that during the 5G era, mobile networks will link up not only communications between people but also that between people and everything, and different industries should proactively embrace 5G so as not to fall behind their counterparts.

Lu said that the 5G era will come in five to eight years, and companies should start to get prepared now by designing a business model that could integrate well with the latest wireless technology.
