MAPUTO, May 29 (Xinhua) -- The Post-cyclones Reconstruction Office of Mozambique said Wednesday in Beira that more than 700 participants have confirmed their presence at the donors' conference to be held in the city from the coming Friday and Saturday.

The office's director Francisco Pereira said he is optimistic that the conference will help the government raise the amount, which is over 3 billion U.S. dollars for the country to normalize the socioeconomic life after being struck by the cyclone Idai and cyclone Kenneth.

Pereira said the required amount corresponds to a program that cannot be done in one or two years, probably in five or more.

"For instance in infrastructure, roads, electric power lines and railways were affected, coastal line protection, a priority area in the city of Beira, was also affected and the sector of housing, particularly for the people with limited resources was also a priority," said Pereira.

According to the director, the infrastructure area should consume most of the needed value, followed by housing, while the public infrastructures should absorb over 1 billion U.S. dollars.

From the expected participants, 300 are foreigners including representatives from the key partners, namely United Nations, European Union, World Bank, African Development Bank, and Islamic Bank.

The head of bureau said logistics for the conference are all in place.

It was the first time the country has suffered from such devastating cyclones within six weeks. More than 640 people were killed and 1.85 million people affected by the cyclone Idai and Kenneth.
