GAZA, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- Islamic Hamas movement and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad slammed Israel on Monday for its decision to reduce the amount of fuels shipped into the Gaza Strip and used for operating Gaza power station.

Abdulatif al-Qanoua'a, spokesman of Hamas movement in Gaza, told Xinhua that "the Israeli measures of reducing the amount of fuels shipped into Gaza come in the frame of exerting pressure on the Palestinian people."

"These measures are classified as collective punishment against our people and the occupation (Israel) is fully responsible for it," he said, adding "carrying out such measures would affect the Egyptian-brokered calm understanding."

He called on the mediators, Egypt, the United Nations and Qatar to intervene "to oblige the occupation to be committed to the calm understandings."

Mneawhile, Islamic Jihad leader Ahmed al-Mudallal told Xinhua that "the decision of the occupation to reduce fuel shipped into the Gaza Strip is an attempt to create a flimsy justification for renewing the siege on the Gaza Strip."

"It is an attempt to break the armed resistance and the will of the Palestinian people, who have been under strict siege for 12 years," he said.

The Israeli media has earlier reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu instructed to reduce the amount of fuels shipped into the Gaza Strip for operating the sole and main power station in the coastal enclave.

Netanyahu's instruction came in response to the earlier rockets attack that was carried out from the Gaza Strip into southern Israel. No injuries or damages were reported and no one claimed responsibility for the attack.

Hazem Qassem, Hamas spokesman in Gaza, denied any responsibility of his movement or the other factions in the Gaza Strip for launching rockets from Gaza into Israel last night.
